Three (03) persons held with glyphosate in Thambuththegama

The Navy in coordination with Police Special Task Force (STF) conducted a raid in Thambuththegama and apprehended 03 suspects with packets of glyphosate and monzan on 08^th January 2020.

The Navy being an active partner in curbing illegal activities in the country, conducted this raid in collaboration with the Police STF in the town area of Thambuththegama and seized 219 packets (21.9kg) of glyphosate and 250 packets (22.5kg) of monzan. The packets had been on sale at 03 retail shops in town and the shop owners were also held accordingly.

The accused are residents of Thambuththegama, aged 40, 49 and 63. The shop owners, along with the banned compounds were handed over to the Agriculture Office of Anuradhapura for onward action.
