Navy assists apprehension of 02 persons with unauthorized fishing nets

The Navy, during a raid conducted with the Police Special Task Force (STF), apprehended 02 persons with unauthorized fishing nets in Jaffna on 07^th January 2020.

The Navy has been conducting operations to prevent the use of unauthorized fishing nets which result in economic losses for the fishing industry and marine life. During a similar operation conducted at Ambiga Nagar in Jaffna, the Navy and the STF managed to find 02 unauthorized fishing nets in a house and subsequently apprehended the 02 suspects in the house. They have been identified as residents of Kannapuram in Jaffna, aged 46 and 50.

The accused along with unauthorized fishing nets were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries of Jaffna for onward investigation.
