Navy assists to apprehend a person with detonators used for illegal fishing

Few detonators used for illegal fishing were recovered by the Navy during a raid carried out in coordination with Police, in Mannar area on 2^nd January 2019.

Maritime eco system is severely damaged by the use of explosive for fishing and SL Navy conducts frequent operations to prevent these activities. Such an operation was carried out by Navy in coordination with Police Anti Corruption Unit in Mannar area. During the operation, a suspicious person who was walking along a road was searched and 08 non electric detonators and a safety fuse prepared for fishing, were recovered in his possession.

The suspect is a resident of the same area aged 36. He along with detonators and safety fuse were handed over to Mannar Police for further investigation.
