Navy’s diving operation carried out in Gregory Lake-Nuwara Eliya
The sluice gate of the Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya which was on non operational condition, was brought back to operational by the SL Navy, on 24th December 2019.
SL Navy always assists the people to come up the difficulties caused by the adverse weather and accordingly responding to information given by the mayor of Nuwara Eliya about the non operational condition of the sluice gate of the Gregory Lake, a Navy diving team was promptly deployed to repair it.
During the basic search diving, the Navy divers observed that a pressurized water spring comes out between the sluice gate and the bed layer of the tank. Since it was dangerous to carry out a diving operation under such a condition, using iron plates and sand sacks the water spring was blocked. Later, by diving conducted in the high cold water Navy divers detected that the bolt connect the sluice gate to its maneuvering part was broken. Thereafter, a new bolt provided by municipal engineers, was fixed to the sluice gate by Navy divers and as a result of their skilled and professional hard work the sluice gate was made operational.
