Navy rescues person from drowning at sea off Mount Lavinia
The Navy managed to save a persons from drowning at sea off Mount Lavinia on 22nd December 2019.
The person who was bathing off the beach of Mount Lavinia was wept out to sea. Having noticed the person got into difficulty, the sailors of Navy Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU), who were engaged in training at the beach has promptly rescued the person at risk of drowning.
The rescued persons has been identified as a resident of Dehiwala, aged 32.
Arrangements have also been made to deploy navy lifesaving teams for the safety of local and foreign tourists who visit the beaches around the island as well as tanks and rivers inland. As such, the Navy remains vigilant over the safety of tourist at water bodies which can be unsafe at times.
