Navy held 07 persons for engaging in fishing using unauthorized nets

The Navy held 07 persons who engaged in fishing, using unauthorized nets in Nilaveli sea area, Trincomalee on 24^th December 2019.

The apprehension was made during a patrol conducted in the sea area off Nilaveli by the Navy. The apprehended persons along with an unauthorized fishing net, a dinghy and other fishing gear belonging to them were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries of Trincomalee for onward action.

Throughout the year, the Navy has held a number of persons who engaged in illegal fishing by means of unauthorized fishing nets. The Navy will continue to keep vigil over this kind of illegal acts, in an attempt to protect the biodiversity of the marine ecosystem and fish and marine resources for the future generation.
