Navy apprehends 09 persons for transferring sand illegally
The Navy held 09 persons for illegal transferring of sand in Rakuliya, Trincomalee on 21st December 2019.
During a foot patrol conducted in the general area of Rakuliya, the Navy managed to apprehend these 09 persons who were transferring sand by illegal means. Along with the suspects 05 tractors, 05 trailers, 01 motorcycle and 04 cubes of sand were also held by the Navy. The accused are residents of Trincomalee and Muthur 05, from 19 to 40 years of age. The apprehended persons and items were handed over to the Muthur Police for onward investigation.
The Navy has launched a number of operations to prevent this illegal sand mining activities by handful of people with scant regard over its harmful repercussions. The Navy’s intervention will be timely as this illegal business results in negative environmental consequences.
