Navy relief teams kept on standby to respond during inclement weather

Sri Lanka Navy has deployed a number of relief teams in many areas as of now, following the inclement weather prevailing in the island.

The Navy being a forerunner in dealing with emergencies in the country has already deployed its relief teams to respond to adversities of the general public during the inclement weather. Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Navy relief teams are kept on standby at each Naval Command to be deployed across the country at short notice.

Naval personnel belonging to the Sri Lanka Navy Marines, Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU), Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and Diving Unit and who are trained to provide relief in case of emergency, are attached to these relief teams.

Further, as a prior preparation to minimize the flood risk, during the past few weeks Navy initiated number of cleaning efforts to remove debris collected underside of the bridges, culverts in identified areas. Further, the Navy is also prepared to provide assistance to the people in the event of any emergency situation.
