An ill fisherman brought ashore for treatment

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring an ill fisherman ashore for treatment on 17^th December 2019.

As part of its search and rescue operations, in the event of any distressed situation for the naval and fishing community who use the ocean around Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Navy launched another rescue mission in the southern seas. A trawler named 'Randir Putha', had set sail from the fisheries harbour in Ambalangoda and a fisherman aboard had fallen ill due to a heart disease. On being informed by the owner of the vessel, the Navy swiftly sent off a Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) attached to the Southern Naval Command to retrieve the patient.

Accordingly, the patient was taken to the Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) in the seas off Galle harbour and he was rushed ashore while providing first aid. The patient is a 22 year old person from Balapitiya area. Having reached the Galle harbour, the patient was promptly transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

Further, the Sri Lanka Navy has realized the responsibility of responding to distressed community in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Navy is constantly responding to such unfortunate incidents that occur at sea.
