Progressive move of naval armament technology

The Navy has been able to convert the manually operated 40mm/L60 weapon onboard SLNS Samudura to electrical operation, with the help improved technology in naval armament.

The simple ceremony to mark this occasion was presided over by Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Nandana Jayarathna at SLNS Dakshina on 09^th December 2019.

The prime aim of this project was to convert manually operated 40mm/L60 weapon onboard SLNS Samudura to electrical operation (training, elevation and firing) with local expertise and knowledge utilizing resources at hand. On completion of the project, the weapon could fire both in manual and electrical modes satisfactorily and accomplish awaited results.

Commanding Officer SLNS Samudura, Captain Damian Fernando and a group of senior officers attached to the Southern Naval Command were also present on this special occasion.
