Based on information provided by the owner of the fishing vessel, the Navy took a swift decision to deploy a Fast Attack Craft which was carrying out patrol in the south coast, for the task. Despite the rough seas at 55 nautical miles off Galle Lighthouse the crew of the Fast Attack Craft were able to retrieve the injured fisherman and provide him with basic medical assistance until he was safely brought back ashore, after which the patient was administered to the Teaching Hospital-Karapitiya for further treatment.
