Navy carries out beach cleaning programme on Galle face beach

The Galle face beach, frequented by locals and tourists alike, which was littered with plastic and waste, was given much needed facelift by Sri Lanka Navy, under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy today (30^th November).

The cleaning drive carried out at Galle face beach was able to restore the beauty of the beach which was heavily polluted by natural causes and human activities. Upon completion of the cleanup, a tree planting program was also conducted where several types of trees endemic to the coastal belt, were planted.

The event, was headed by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and a large gathering of Naval personnel, marked the conclusion of yet another successful beach cleanup to add to the long list of such initiatives the Navy has been spearheading to transform the polluted coastal belt around the island into its former golden splendour, with a broader view preserving the rich coastal belt for the future generations.
