Sixth Asia-Pacific Symposium concludes on successful note

The 06^th Asia-Pacific Symposium organized by the Sri Lanka Navy and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) concluded on a successful note at the Galle Face Hotel on 21^st November 2019.

Twenty six (26) naval officers from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Timor East, Vietnam and Sri Lanka attended this year’s symposium.

This symposium which has a special significance, created a venue for the naval officers of the countries routinely engage in various types of maritime operations, including operations against maritime terrorism, anti-narcotics, counter-piracy, counter human smuggling, prevention of IUU fishing, prevention of maritime pollution and maritime border protection to discuss the issues and challenges in international rules of naval warfare and enforcement of the law.

The Law of Naval Warfare (International Humanitarian Law) was the theme of the three-day symposium in which challenges and complexities of naval warfare as well as outlining the specific traits of humanitarian action at sea were discussed.
