Russian Navy training ship ‘Perekop’ departs Hambantota harbour after successful tour

The training ship ‘Perekop’ of the Russian Navy, which arrived in Sri Lanka on 19th November, departed from the port of Hambantota on completion of a successful tour today (21st November 2019). The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship in accordance with naval traditions.

The crew members of the vessel took part in a wide range of programmes organized by their Sri Lankan counterpart, during their stay in the island. Accordingly, naval personnel of both countries played some friendly yet exciting games including volleyball and tug of war. These friendly encounters helped promotion of the onus of sportsmanship and camaraderie among players.

Further, a group of senior naval officers including the Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul made a visit to the Russian ship where the ship’s company warmly received the visiting SLN officers. Meanwhile, the visiting group was also briefed about the role and duties of the vessel. Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka, Colonel Denis I. Shkoda was also present on this occasion.

The tour paved the way to further strengthen ties between the navies of Russia and Sri Lanka and exchange knowledge and experience among naval personnel of two friendly countries.
