Navy-made RO plant declared open by HE the President at International Institute of Theravada

Marking yet another important landmark of the Sri Lanka Navy’s efforts to curb Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant installed by the Navy was ceremonially declared open by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at the International Institute of Theravada in Karuwalagaswewa, Anamaduwa today (15^th November 2019).

The occasion was attended by Venerable Maha Sangha, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Army, officers from state institutes and a large number of people in the region.

This RO plant installed by the Navy, will be able to supply safe drinking water for a large number of devotees visiting the International Institute of Theravada located at Heenatikalma belonging to the Divisional Secretariat of Karuwalagaswewa, Anamaduwa.

In a bid to provide safe drinking water for deprived community in areas where high prevalence of Kidney Disease is reported, a large number of RO units, manufactured utilizing Navy’s manpower and technological know-how, has been vested in the ownership of the public in a number of districts across the country to date. This generous endeavour carried out by the Navy following the visionary concept of His Excellency the President, is sponsored by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and various philanthropists who are concerned about this worthy cause.

Going hand in hand with the policy for eradicating CKD form Sri Lanka, the Navy is determined to install a number of RO plants in identified areas in the future, in collaboration with the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.
