Eight persons held for engaging in fishing using unauthorized nets

The Navy, while patrolling the sea area of Kokilai, Trincomalee, held 08 persons for engaging in illegal fishing on 06^th November 2019.

The Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol in the sea area of Kokilai, held these persons for fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. The suspects have been identified as people of Pulmodai, from 20 to 41 years of age. Along with the suspects 02 dinghies, 02 outboard motors, 10kg of illegally caught fish and 01 unauthorized fishing net were also seized.

The apprehended persons together with seized items and other fishing gear were handed over to the Kuchchaweli Fisheries Office for further investigation.

Since illegal fishing practices cause serious repercussions on marine resources, the Navy remains vigilant at all times to prevent such activities performed by law-breaking section of fishing community.
