Navy apprehends a person with 2432 conch shells
The Navy in coordination with the Mannar Division Vice Squad conducted a search in the general area of Irukkulampiddi, Mannar and apprehended a person with 2432 conch shells on 06th November 2019.
Accordingly, the North Central Naval Command and Mannar Division Vice Squad, during a search in Irukkulampiddi, held this suspect who had stored this stock of conch shells in a house. The apprehended person has been identified as a resident of the same area, aged 30. The accused along with the seized conch shells was handed over to the Mannar Police Station for onward action.
According to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act the possession, buying, displaying with the intention of selling, transporting or exporting of conch shells which are less than 70 mm in diameter has been banned.
