Navy holds six persons used banned nets for fishing

SL Navy apprehended six (06) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets at Kudiramale sea area, on 4^th November 2019.

Accordingly, Northwestern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted in Kudiramale sea area, apprehended these six persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets. Navy also seized a dinghy, a banned net, an OBM, 1000kg of illegal fish catch and some fishing gears.

The suspects are residents of Arippu area in the ages between 26 to 37. Apprehended persons along with the dinghy, net, OBM and other fishing gears were handed over to the office of the Fisheries Inspector, Mannar for onward legal acion.

Since the using of unauthorized fishing nets cause to decrease the fish resource, SL Navy is vigilant to avert such illegal acts in order to protect the marine resources around the island.
