Person apprehended with a stock of illegal cigarettes

The Navy and Police apprehended a person with 4,000 illegal cigarettes during a search operation conducted in Negombo on 01^st November 2019.

During a search carried out at Koppara junction in Negombo, the Western Naval Command and Anti Organized Crime Division of Police STF have spotted a suspicious person and searched him. During the search the security personnel managed to find 4,000 illegal cigarettes (200 packets) in his possession. The apprehension has been made while the suspect was transferring these illegal cigarettes to sell.

The apprehended person has been identified as a resident of the same area, aged 51. The suspect along with the stock of cigarettes was handed over to the Negombo Police for onward legal action.
