Navy Public Speaking Competition held in Colombo

The Public Speaking Competition – 2019 of Sri Lanka Navy, organized by the Naval Research Wing for the fourth consecutive year, was held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, SLNS Parakrama on 29th October 2019.

The competition was conducted under senior and junior categories. The awarded cash prizes for the winners of first, second and third places of both categories were Rs. 100,000.00/=, 75,000.00/= and 50,000.00/=. The prizes and certificates for winners were awarded by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and Commander Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Sujeewa Perera.

The winners are as follows;


Senior Category

First Place - Lieutenant Commander (S) MR Kurera (Western Naval Area)

Second Place - Lieutenant Commander (C) RMDC Rathnayake (Southern Naval Area)

Third Place - Lieutenant Commander (C) KH Wanniarachchi (Eastern Naval Area)


Junior Category

First Place - Lieutenant US Hettiarachchi (Western Naval Area)

Second Place - Lieutenant (S) JMRS Jayawardana (Eastern Naval Area)

Third Place - Lieutenant TC Weerasinghe (Eastern Naval Area)

Director General Training, Rear Admiral Nandana Jayarathne, Director Marine Special Forces, Commodore Priyantha Perera, Deputy Director British Council, Mr. Duncan Mothersill and Deputy Teaching Centre Manager of British Council, Ms. Helen Sykes were the panel of judges. Director Generals, Head of the Naval Research Wing, Commodore Prasad Kariyapperuma, senior officers and a large number of naval personnel were present on the occasion.
