Navy takes part in ‘Wana Ropa’ national tree planting programme

In parallel with the Wana Ropa’ national tree planting programme, the Navy conducted a tree planting and beach cleaning programme in the Southern Naval Command today (26th October 2019).

Accordingly, the Southern Naval Command planted 50 Mudilla plants which are native to mangrove habitats, in the coastal belt running from Pitiwella to Wellabada. Further, saplings of nedun, mahogany, kumbuk, mee, domba, coconut and wide variety of fruits were planted at the premises of SLNS Nipuna.

Meanwhile, the Southern Naval Command has also organized beach clean-up programmes at the beaches of Gintota, Boossa and Mahamodara in Galle and Paraviwella in Tangalle. Naval personnel managed to clean the beaches which had been polluted as a result of human activities. Apart from that, the Western Naval Command has also carried out a beach cleaning drive at the Galle Face today.

The Navy has been playing an instrumental role in protection and conservation of the coastal belt as well as the wilderness of the country, with the noble intention of gifting them to the future generation.
