Navy apprehends 08 persons for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended 08 persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities during a patrol carried out in Upparu sea area, Trincomalee on 24^th October 2019.

Accordingly, the Eastern Naval Command while conducting a patrol in the sea area off Upparu, held these 08 persons who engaged in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. They have been identified as residents of Kinniya and China Bay, aged from 25 to 43 years. Along with the suspects a dinghy, an outboard motor, banned net and 45kg of illegally caught fish were seized.

The apprehended persons together with the dinghy, outboard motor, unauthorized fishing net and illegally caught fish were handed over to the Muthur Fisheries Inspector for onward action.
