Navy apprehends 05 persons for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended 05 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the seas off Gurukanda, Nayaru on 23^rd October 2019.

Accordingly, the Eastern Naval Command while conducting a patrol in the sea area off Gurukanda, held these persons who engaged in fishing without valid fishing passes. They have been identified as residents of Trincomalee and Pulmoddai. Along with the suspects a dinghy and an outboard motor used for illegal fishing were also seized.

The apprehended persons together with the dinghy, outboard motor and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries of Mullaitivu for onward action.
