Navy apprehends twelve persons with 2300 sea cucumber caught without permits
Twelve (12) persons who engaged in catching sea cucumber without permits were apprehended by the Navy during a raid carried out in coordination with the office of the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mulativu, at the Pudumathalan beach area, on 22nd October 2019.
Accordingly, 12 persons who engaged in illegal catching of sea cucumber without permits, were apprehended during a raid conducted at the Pudumathalan beach area by Eastern Naval Command in coordination with the office of the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mulativu. 2300 Nos. of sea cucumber which had been caught illegally were recovered there. Navy also seized 04 dinghies and 04 OBMs.
The suspects are residents of Kalpitiya and Trincomalee areas in the ages between 36 to 40. Further investigation on apprehended persons along with the dinghies, OBMs and stock of sea cucumber are conducted by the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mulativu.
Further, 11 persons who caught and transported sea cucumber without permits, were held by Navy during the raids conducted in Nallur beach area and in Vankalai, Mannar, on the same day and 340kg of sea cucumber were recovered.
