Navy apprehends 06 persons for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy, during a patrol in Kokilai sea area, Pulmoddai on 21^st October 2019, apprehended 06 persons who engaged in illegal fishing activities.

Accordingly, the Eastern Naval Command while conducting a patrol in the sea area off Kokilai, held these 06 persons who engaged in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. They have been identified as residents of Welioya, Koththantivu and Kokilai, aged from 25 to 51 years. Along with the suspects a dinghy, an outboard motor and an unauthorized fishing net were seized.

The apprehended persons together with the dinghy, outboard motor, unauthorized fishing net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Kuchchaweli Fisheries Inspector for onward action. Meanwhile, the Navy also nabbed 14 persons engaged in illegal fishing by means of banned fishing nets in the seas off Pulmodai and Poduwakattu on 20^th October.
