VBSS Course conduct for UNODC officials terminated in Trincomalee
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Visit Board Search & Seizure (VBSS) Course conducted for coast guard personnel of Republic of Philippines, Kingdom of Thailand, Socialist Republic of Vietnam attached to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme was held at the Special Boat Squadron Training School in Trincomalee, on 18th October 2019.
The event was grazed by the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle as the chief guest. Twenty two (22) foreign students including ten (10) Coast Guard personnel from Republic of Philippines, eight (8) Coast Guard personnel from Kingdom of Thailand, two (02) Coast Guard personnel and two (02) Boarder guard personnel from Socialist Republic of Vietnam attended the course.
This nature of special training programme was carried out in such a manner enabling the participants to pick the brain of experienced SLN personnel to hone their knowledge mainly on drug identification, drug transferring methods and planning, preparation and boarding procedures.
Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Meril Wickramasinghe, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva, Flag Rank officers, Heads of Departments in the Eastern Naval Area, senior officers of Sri Lanka Navy, Mr Cristian Santos, the Programme Officer of UNODC to the Pacific Ocean Region, officials of UNODC and the instructors of Special Boat Squadron Training School were also present at the event.
