Seven (07) persons engaged in illegal fishing held by Navy

SL Navy apprehended seven (07) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using explosive in Arippu beach area, on 07^th October 2019.

Accordingly, Northwestern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted in Arippu beach area, apprehended these suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using dynamites. These persons had been apprehended while returning to beach after illegal fishing activities and they were identified as residents of the same area aged 26 to 48.

Apprehended persons along with two dinghies and fish catch were handed over to the Fisheries inspector-Mannar for further action.

Since the explosive harm fish breeding spots and the small fish density, SL Navy is always on alert to nab the illegal fishers who use explosive and other illegal means.
