Navy apprehends a person with 658 conch shells

The Navy in coordination with the Sinnakudiirippu Police conducted a search in the general area of Sinnakudiirippu, Kalpitiya and apprehended a person with 658 conch shells on 01^st October 2019.

Accordingly, the Northwestern Naval Command and the Sinnakudiirippu Police conducted this raid in the general area of Sinnakudiirippu and held the 43 year-old suspect who is a resident of the same area. The accused along with the seized conch shells was handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries of Puttalam for onward investigation.

According to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act the possession, buying, displaying with the intention of selling, transporting or exporting of conch shells which are less than 70 mm in diameter has been banned.
