Awareness programme on elimination of illegal fishing practices held in Trincomalee
A programme to make naval personnel aware of illegal fishing gear and practices was held at the mini-auditorium of the Eastern Naval Command on 24th September 2019.
The programme was held under the theme ‘Elimination of Illegal Fishing Gear and Activities’ and it was organized by the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Eastern Region Director and Department of Fisheries led Task Force.
Mr. R.S.A Rathsara Bandara, Assistant Director (Training) of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources led the eminent panel of resource persons, including representatives from the Police Narcotic Bureau and the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The awareness programme was initiated with the objective of bridging the knowledge gap and stirring understanding amongst naval and Coastguard personnel in the conduct of law enforcement activities against illegal fishing in the eastern seas.
Meanwhile, a group of personnel from the Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard attended this timely initiative.
