Commander of the Navy visits Kuchachaweli to watch ‘Cormorant Strike - 2019’
The joint tri-service Field Training Exercise (FTX), 'Cormorant Strike X - 2019', organized by the Sri Lanka Army for the 10th consecutive year, took place with the participation of foreign service personnel covering the Eastern, Central, Western and North Central Provinces. The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, as the Chief Guest, graced the final day of the action-packed exercise held in Kuchchaweli, Trincomalee today (23rd September).
Meanwhile, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias and a large number of senior officers of tri forces were also present to observe the exercise.
400 Sri Lanka Navy personnel took part in the annual joint exercise along with 2,400 Army and 200 Air Force personnel as well as several foreign counterparts from Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Russia, USA, Bangladesh, China, France, India, Iran, Pakistan, UK and Zimbabwe.
The multi-national Field Training Exercise commenced at the mock Operational Headquarters at the SLA’s Infantry Training Centre (ITC) in Minneriya on 04th September. This joint field exercise aimed at enhancing the mutual cooperation and operational readiness between the counterparts and it was augmented with the participation of an elite contingent of naval personnel along with naval ships SLNS Shakthi, SLNS Ranarisi, SLNS Ranajaya, Fast Attack Craft, Inshore Patrol Craft and Cedric boats.
