SLNS Rangalla celebrates 52nd anniversary giving prominence to religious activities
The Commanding Officer, Captain Mahendra Weerarathna and the ship’s complement organized a number of religious programmes on the sidelines of the celebration of the 52nd anniversary of SLNS Rangalla, which falls on 08th September 2019.
As part of the series of religious events, the Hindu rites were conducted at the Kathiresan Kovil in Kochchikade and Islamic rituals at the Jummah Masjid Mosque on Chatham Street. Meanwhile, a mass was also held at St. Anthony's church, Kochchikade under the auspices of Father Jude Raj Fernando.
Further, an all-night pirith chanting ceremony was held on 06th September 2019 and it was followed by an alms giving and pirikara offering to 30 Bhikkus. Thereupon, the Venerable Maha Sangha transferred merits on all fallen war heroes and invoked blessings on the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel.
Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe, officers, and a large number of senior and junior sailors took part in these wide-ranging religious programmes.
