Navy apprehends 08 persons for fishing using unauthorized fishing nets

The Navy this morning (30^th August) apprehended 08 persons who engaged in fishing activities using unauthorized fishing nets, in the seas off Kokilai.

Eastern Naval Command, during routine patrol, apprehended these 08 persons who were fishing in the seas off Kokilai by means of unauthorized fishing nets. Meanwhile, the unauthorized fishing net, dinghy and fishing gear used for illegal fishing will be handed over to the Kuchchaweli Police for onward legal action.

The Navy, during the past couple of days, managed to apprehend a number of persons who engaged in fishing in the eastern waters, using unauthorized fishing nets. Further, the Navy is determined to continue their patrols to ward off such illegal practices, in a bid to secure fish stocks and marine resources for human well-being.
