Navy holds six persons engaged in illegal fishing

Six persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets in the seas off Sampoor, Trincomalee were apprehended by Navy on 17^th August 2019.

Accordingly, these suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted in the seas off Sampoor. Navy also seized a dinghy, a banned net and some fishing gears. Apprehended persons along with the dinghy, net and other fishing gears were handed over to the Director of Fisheries-Sampoor.

Persons who attempted to engage in illegal fishing with unauthorized nets, had been apprehended over the past few weeks and the Navy has succeed to minimize such illegal acts to preserve fish and other maritime resources for future generations.
