451.1 kg of Beedi leaves recovered by Naval operations

451.1kg of Beedi leaves were recovered by the Navy during patrols carried out in Mannar and Thalaimannar areas on 13^th August 2019.

Two suspicious parcels were observed during a foot patrol carried out by North Central Naval Command at Oluthuduwai beach area in Mannar and by further search into parcels 138.1 Beedi leaves were recovered.

Further, on the same day, 313kg of Beedi leaves packed as 04 parcels which had washed ashore to Old Jetty area in Thalaimannar were recovered by North Central Naval Command. Accordingly, the recovered hauls of Beedi leaves by NCC consisted 451.1 kg and it was handed over to Customs office-Jaffna for onward action.

Accordingly, more than 1000 kg of Beedi leaves which were abandoned, have been recovered during the raids conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy, within the past few days and Navy is alert to avert such illegal activities.
