Navy recovers 461.7 kg of Beedi leaves

SL Navy recovered 461.7kg of Beedi leaves at Oluthuduwai beach in Mannar on 12^th August 2019.

Accordingly, a haul of Beedi leaves consist of 461.7kg was recovered by North Central Naval Command during a patrol carried out in Oluthuduwai beach area in Mannar. This haul of Beedi leaves which was packed in 9 parcels, had washed ashore and it is due to hand over to the Customs-Jaffna.

Although the drug traffickers try to bring Beedi leaves from overseas, they are unable to reach the destination due to the Navy's strong net of patrol. About 28000kg of illegal Beedi leaves have been apprehended by the Navy up to date this year and Navy continue patrol in search of illegal rackets operating in the seas.
