A suspicious fishing craft into Naval custody
A suspicious multiday fishing trawler was taken into Naval custody by the Navy at the Galle harbour mouth during a search carried out on 5th August 2019.
According to a court order issued by the Magistrate courts Colombo to the Department of Coast Guard, they have informed the Navy about this fishing trawler. Following the information, SL Navy launched operations to detect this trawler and naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command had tightened the security of the harbour mouth at Galle harbour. Accordingly, this suspicious trawler named “Thanuja Duwa 03 ” headed to Galle harbour with 7 persons onboard were taken into naval custody by the naval personnel on duty at the harbour mouth.
As a result of vigilant eye of the naval personnel on patrol, this apprehension was successful and after the basic inquiry by Navy, the trawler along with the seven suspects were handed over to the Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
Sri Lanka Navy, under the directives of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, carries out continuous patrol to abolish the illegal rackets off the Sri Lankan coastal belt.
