Commander of the Navy visits Russia
Reciprocating to an extended invitation from the Russian Navy, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva made an official visit to Russia from 27th to 30th July 2019.
During the visit the Commander of the Navy attended the annual naval parade in St. Petersburg, which is considered as Russia's large-scale international ceremonial event at sea.
Further, Vice Admiral Silva also held bilateral discussions with Admiral Nokolay A Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. The discussions helped consolidating bilateral naval relations between Russia and Sri Lanka to explore new avenues for naval cooperation. Mementoes were also exchanged to mark the importance of this occasion.
As part of the tour, the Navy Commander also took time off to visit the State Hermitage Museum and Central Naval Museum in Saint Petersburg as well as some of the Russian naval vessels.
