P 625 brings ashore ill fisherman for treatment as her first mission

Sri Lanka Navy, on 27^th July 2019, brought ashore a fisherman who was suddenly taken ill at sea.

Based on information disseminated by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, P 625 - the latest inclusion of the Sri Lanka Navy was sent out to retrieve the fisherman who was down with a heart problem. The ill fisherman was onboard a multiday fishing vessel - ‘Sandali Valentine 5’ which has left for fishing from Dikovita fisheries harbour on 03rd June 2019.

Accordingly, the ill fisherman was safely taken aboard the naval vessel about 274 nautical miles off the Galle Lighthouse. The patient was administered first aid aboard the ship and he was transferred to a Fast Attack Craft, attached to the Southern Naval Command, to rush him to the Galle harbour. Having brought him ashore the patient was hurried to the Teaching Hospital-Karapitiya for further treatment.

This rescue effort marked as the very first mission undertaken by P 625 after joining the Sri Lanka Navy fleet. Sri Lanka Navy is always geared to assist distressed fishing folk and naval community in Sri Lankan territorial waters, through search and rescue missions, as soon as their presence is felt.
