Navy assists to release a Turtle to the sea
Sri Lanka Navy assisted to release a turtle into Seas executing a order issued by the courts on 23rd July 2019.
A turtle which had been kept by a person illegally was arrested by Illavalai Police and produced to the Magistrate Court of Mallakam. The magistrate had ordered to release the creature and accordingly Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command set free the turtle into northern seas in coordination with Illavalai Police, Wild Life Department and Department of SL Coast Guard.
Under the visionary concept "Neela Haritha Sangramaya" of Commander of the Navy, Sri Lanka Navy has also launched a turtle conservation project and release baby turtles form the hatcheries maintained by the Navy at selected beach areas.
Further, the Navy throws its full weight behind for the conservation of wide ranging ocean resources, through its dedicated missions.
