Able Seaman Indika Dissanayake of SL Navy adjudged the Most Outstanding Sportsman of the year

Able Seaman Indika Dissanayake of SL Navy was conferred with title of Most Outstanding Sportsman of the year at the Presidential Sports Award ceremony-2019 held at the Bandaranayaka Memorial International Conference Hall, on 17^th July 2019.

Presidential Sports Award ceremony initiated on a concept of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, was organized by the Ministry of Sports. The sportsmen and sportswomen who displayed excellence in various sports events were conferred awards. Accordingly, Able Seaman Indika Dissanayake of SL Navy who won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in weight lifting won the Most Outstanding Sportsman award. In addition to this, Indika Dissanayake won the Presidential Award for the Sports Personality of the Year and the award for the Most Popular Sportsman, claiming three awards at the Presidential Sports Award ceremony.

The Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva who attended the awarding ceremony, commended Able Seaman Dissanayake for the glory brought by him to SL Navy and the motherland as well, through the achievements gained by the excellent performances in the local and international sports arena.
