Navy’s contribution for the conduct of drug prevention programmes

Officers of the Navy’s Drug Prevention Unit conducted awareness programmes on drug prevention in Rajanganaya and Sigiriya on 14th and 15th July 2019.

The awareness programme organized by ‘Vidula' children’s radio programme of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention, under the theme ‘Righteous Generation and a Drug Free Country', was held at Sri Dakshinaramaya Temple, Track 08 in Rajanganaya on 14th July 2019. The programme was conducted by Counseling Officers of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Meanwhile, the Navy with the assistance of the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention conducted another drug prevention programme at Sigiriya Central College on 15th July 2019. The programme was attended by a large number of school children and its staff members.

During these programmes, harmful effects of smoking and drug addiction were discussed with the participants. Further, the social, economic and personal impacts of drug addiction were also highlighted during these events.

The programmes were conducted by Counseling Officers and sailors attached to the North Central Naval Command. Sri Lanka Navy, under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, is conducting a number of drug prevention programmes across the country, with the noble intention of creating a drug free society.
