Navy apprehends 11 persons for engaging in illegal acts

As a vigilant force to ensure the security in the territorial waters of the island and its coastal line, Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 11 persons who engaged in illegal acts in Eastern Naval Command, on 9th July 2019.

Accordingly, the crew onboard an Inshore Patrol Craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command, arrested 7 persons who engaged in illegal fishing with banned net around seas off Norway island. A banned net, a dinghy, an OBM and other fishing gears were taken into Naval custody. The suspects along with the all fishing gears were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Trincomalee for onward action. Further, 195m long unauthorized fishing net (Surukku net) was also found at the same area and it was handed over to Fisheries Inspector’s office-Muthur.

Meanwhile, 04 persons who were transporting “Pregabalin” pain killer capsules for sale, were arrested in a combined operation conducted by Sri Lanka Navy, SL Air Force and Police officers attached to the Yan Oya Police post, at the Yarn Oya bridge, Pulmude. The three wheeler used for transporting and 600 “Pregabalin” capsules were nabbed and those were handed over to Pulmude Police for further investigation.
