Eastern Naval Command organizes a number of programmes in view of National Drug Prevention Week
On the sidelines of the National Drug Prevention Week mooted by the President His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena from 23rd June to 01st July 2019, a wide range of programmes had been organized in the Eastern Naval Command.
Accordingly, these drug prevention programmes were organized at naval bases belonging to the Eastern Naval Area as well as Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya and Tissa Maha Vidyalaya in Trincomalee. During the programmes, the participants were made aware about the health implications of smoking and use of harmful drugs, emphasizing the impacts of them on social, financial and personnel collapse of an individual.
The events were attended by a large number of school children and naval personnel. Apart from the programmes of the National Drug Prevention Week, the Navy, under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, is conducting a series of drug prevention programmes island-wide as of now. This magnanimous cause of the Navy is also well assisted by the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention.
