Navy nabs sixteen persons for illegal fishing

Naval personnel nabbed sixteen (16) persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the sea area of Kalladichenei in Trincomalee on 03^rd July 2019.

A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol, held these 16 persons who engaged in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets. The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Kinniya area, aged between 24 to 60. Along with the suspects 02 dinghies, 02 outboard motors (OBM) and 02 unauthorized fishing nets were taken into naval custody.

The suspects together with the seized dinghies, outboard motors, unauthorized nets and other fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Verugal for onward action.
