A number of programmes organized in Southern Naval Command to coincide with National Drug Prevention Week
To coincide with the National Drug Prevention Week mooted by the President His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena from 23rd June to 01st July 2019, a wide range of programmes had been organized in the Southern Naval Command.
Accordingly, the instructors of the Navy Counseling Unit in coordination with the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention conducted a counseling workshop for over 2,000 school children in the Southern Naval Area. During the programme the children were educated about the health implications of smoking and use of harmful drugs, while emphasizing their impacts on social, financial and personnel slump of an individual.
Meanwhile, Dhamma Sermon as well as a series of street drams was held at every establishment in the Southern Naval Command in view of sending a message in a practical manner to the naval personnel about the harmful effects of drug addiction.
Apart from the programmes of the National Drug Prevention Week, the Navy, under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, is conducting a series of drug prevention programmes island-wide as of now.
