Two (02) persons apprehended by Navy for engaging in illegal fishing

Naval personnel apprehended 02 persons for engaging in illegal fishing activities in the Back Bay of Trincomalee, on 30^th June 2019.

A group of naval personnel attached to a craft in the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol, apprehended these 02 suspects who were practicing illegal fishing using unauthorized fishing nets in the Back Bay area. The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Nilaweli in Trincomalee, aged 29 and 39. The Navy alto took 01 dingy, 01 outboard motor (OBM) and an unauthorized net into naval custody.

The 02 suspects along with the seized items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Trincomalee, through the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, for onward investigation.
