An injured fisherman brought ashore for treatment
The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring an injured fisherman ashore for treatment today (14th June).
Based on information provided by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, a Fast Attack Craft attached to the Southern Naval Command was sent out to retrieve the injured person who had left for fishing aboard a multiday fishing vessel ‘Janith Putha02’ from Negombo fisheries harbour on 08th June 2019.
Accordingly, the wounded fisherman was transferred to the naval craft at sea about 33 nautical miles off the Galle Lighthouse, amidst rough sea condition, and he was rushed to the Galle harbour while administering him first aid. Subsequently, he was hurried to the Teaching Hospital-Karapitiya for further treatment.
Since the Navy is very much concerned at the distressed naval and fishing community in island’s territorial waters, it will continue to conduct search and rescue operations to assist such distraught people as and when the Navy’s presence is felt.
