Navy’s prior preparation to face floods

As a precautionary measure of turning away possible floods in forthcoming rainy season, Sri Lanka Navy removed logs and branches of trees clogged underside of the Wakwella bridge in Galle, today (10^th June).

The Metrological Department has predicted that the intermittent rains prevailing in these days will be increased.Since the Wakwella bridge over Gin ganga had been blocked by debris of bamboo bushes and logs from underside making a risk of flood, on the directives of Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul, a Naval relief team attached to Southern Naval Command was deployed to clean the underside of the bridge, today. Naval personnel who engaged in a strenuous task removed the collected debris making way for free downstream of river-water.

Further, due to the existing rains on these days, under the directives of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Naval relief teams have been kept stand by in all naval commands to assist people in flood-affected areas.
