Navy apprehends two persons with 287.3kg of Beedi leaves

A Naval team apprehended two persons with 287.3kg of Beedi leaves at Hunesh Nagar beach area in Silawathura, today (7^th June).

Accordingly, a Naval team attached to the Northwestern Naval Command apprehended 287.3kg of Beedi leaves which were prepared to transfer by a lorry, during a foot patrol at Hunesh Nagar beach area in Silawathura. Two suspicious persons associated with the parcels were also arrested by Navy. The suspects are residents of Weppamkulama area in Silawathura, aged 17 and 46.

The haul of Beedi leaves along with the persons were handed over to Jaffna Customs for onward action.

Further, a naval troop attached to the Northern Naval Command recovered 60.7kg of Beedi leaves during a foot patrol in Palaithivu beach on 5^th June 2019.
