Navy undertakes beach cleaning drive to coincide with World Environment Day

To coincide with the World Environment Day that falls on 05^th June, officers and sailors attached to the Southern Naval Command volunteered to clean the beach lying adjacent to Galle Dutch Fort today.

Going by the directives of His Excellency the President, a National Environment Week has been declared to encourage people to be more green-activists. Therefore, this year’s Environment Day is celebrated under the theme of “Reducing Air Pollution through Sustainable Forest Management”.

As such a series of programmes have been implemented across the country with the involvement of tri-forces, Police and state sector employees to create an environmentally friendly community, trough active participation.
